Be the influencer your child needs

Today a friend of mine posted a quote that said something like this and I’ll paraphrase it:

Be a light for those who stopped shining because they lost their will to shine.

Then, a friend of hers said in the comment section: “Don’t tell me that I’m supposed to carry other people”. 🙄 That made me wow inside me.

If you are not compassionate about your spouse when he’s had a bad day and try to ease their burden. Or if you see a coworker struggling to do her job the right way because she’s having problems at home, or maybe it’s just not her day, and you could hug her or give her a word of encouragement. Won’t you do so? Would that be another weight for you to carry?

Let me tell you something. If you don’t show your kids to be compassionate about people getting hurt, or sick, maybe it’s their pet they need to care about, you are in serious danger.

Oh yes sister. What’s it gonna be when you have a grown up son fighting out there just because he didn’t yield a turn to pass on the street, or refused to give part of his snack to a classmate who didn’t have anything to eat? You are giving your kid the wrong example if you don’t take the time to make a cashier smile when you see she’s having a bad day at work. You can probably say “good day” and smile and you’ve made her shift go smooth. Hug your partner, your kids when they feel emotional… A kind act replicates in so many others, bringing joy and peace around you.

When your kids become adults, what do you expect from them when you get old? And if you become dependant, unable to do some things on your own and they turn their backs on you, for you never showed them that other lives besides theirs matter. That’s what you get when you hide your light instead of sharing it with the world.

Let me share with you a verse I’ve always loved:

…and no one lights a lamp and puts it under a clay pot. Instead, it is placed on a lampstand, where it can give light to everyone in the house.

Matthew 5:15 CEV (Contemporary English Version, Second Edition,CEV ®) 2006 American Bible Society, All Rights Reserved

Spread your light all over your house, inside the hearts of your loved ones, and those around you. We all connect with each other somehow. Not only through social media. Because you don’t get a better world only by wishful thinking. You live in a better world if you make it.

Hugs,

Edaliz
